Tajinderpal Singh Toor has secured silver in the men’s event at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya on Saturday. Following the victory, the Indian shot putter has now claimed his third consecutive medal at the multi-sport event. However, he missed out on his back-to-back gold at the event.
The 31-year-old from Punjab produced a best throw of 20.64 metres on his fifth attempt. He finished behind Iran’s Mohammadreza Tayebise, who took gold with an Asian Games record of 20.81 metres. Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Tolu claimed bronze with 20.48 metres.

Toor, the defending champion from the 2018 Jakarta and 2022 Hangzhou Games, opened with 20.06m and 20.26m before recording 19.77m and 19.71m. The shot putter's 20.64m effort secured second place, though he fouled his final throw. The previous Games record of 20.75m had been set by Toor himself in 2018.
While the silver denied him a historic third successive gold, which would have made him the first Indian track and field athlete to achieve the feat in a single event, the result adds to India’s medal tally and underscores Toor’s consistent dominance in Asian competition.
