Kumar Rocker will become the first Indian to make his debut in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Texas Rangers. Texas Rangers will be taking on Seattle Mariners on Thursday, 12th September. Rocker is the second prospect for the club Texas Rangers and many are excited for his debut.
How it all started for Kumar Rocker?
While attending the North Oconee High School in Georgia, he made a name for himself. He continued to dominate the game while playing for the powerhouse Vanderbilt University. On June 8, 2019, Rocker became the first pitcher ever to throw one in the Super Regional round of the NCAA D1 tournament. Later in the same year, he became the Baseball America's Freshman of the Year.
The New York Mets selected him in the 2021 MLB Draft. He was their 10th pick but Rocker did not sign. Rocker's medical history was a big concern for the club.
Kumar signed with the Tri-City ValleyCats, a club in the Frontier League, ahead of the 2022 season. Just after starting a few games for ValleyCats, he was selected by Rangers. On top of it, he was their third overall pick.
First Indian to feature in MLB
Kumar Rockers' debut game against the Seattle Mariners will be played on Thursday. He will become the first Indian Descent to play in the MLB. It will be a big day for Rocker's mother as she is Indian.
At the University of Auburn, his father Tracy played college football. Later on, he became a CFB Hall of Famer and currently sees himself as the defensive line coach for the Tennessee Titans.
Rocker's grandparents had immigrated to the United States from Andhra Pradesh. His mother, Lalitha met his father, Tracy, when she was a student at the University of Maryland and his Father used to play for Washington Redskins.
