Bo Bichette’s future has become one of the most closely watched storylines of the MLB offseason, with the Toronto Blue Jays star still searching for his next team as spring training approaches.
After a stellar 2025 campaign, the All-Star infielder entered free agency as one of the premier names on the market, yet his situation remains unresolved.
Bo Bichette’s standout 2025 season with Blue Jays
Bichette capped off the 2025 season batting .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs, playing a pivotal role in guiding Blue Jays to their first AL East title since 2015.
His consistent production and leadership made him indispensable to Toronto Blue Jays’ success, while also significantly boosting his value league-wide.
Unsurprisingly, his free agency has drawn interest from multiple contenders looking to strengthen their infield depth.
Among those frequently mentioned are the Boston Red Sox, who have been monitoring Bo Bichette closely after missing out on other marquee options.
Red Sox interest faces financial roadblocks
Despite the apparent fit, insiders believe Boston may struggle to land Bichette. WEEI’s Rob Bradford suggested that financial realities could ultimately keep the Red Sox on the sidelines.
“Bo Bichette, we all know, he would be a great fit here. But you can’t get past the (fact) that he’s going to make a lot more money (signing elsewhere),” Bradford said on Thursday’s episode of Jones & Keefe.
He further added, “The competition they’re going up against for Bichette are the big guys, including Philadelphia. Off of how they’ve operated, it doesn’t seem like they would be able to win any sort of bidding war against those sort of teams.”
Phillies emerge as serious contenders
While Boston’s pursuit appears uncertain, the Philadelphia Phillies are widely viewed as a more realistic destination.
The reigning NL East champions are actively exploring infield upgrades and have shown a consistent willingness to commit to long-term, high-value contracts.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal believes that approach could separate Philadelphia from the pack.
“They are a team that is not afraid to go long with players. It’s a separator for them,” Rosenthal said on Tuesday’s episode of Foul Territory.
“It looks like it might be a separator for them with Bichette as well. They’ll be willing to go seven years, perhaps, for a 28-29 year old Bo Bichette, where other teams might not,” he added.
\With less than two months remaining before spring training, Bichette’s decision could come down to which franchise is prepared to meet both his financial expectations and long-term vision.
