His three-year, $126 million agreement carries one of the highest average annual values for an infielder, underscoring his market stature and the challenge Toronto now faces replacing his offensive impact.
Competitive core still intact
Despite these setbacks, the Blue Jays are far from a team in retreat. Earlier offseason moves, including strengthening the pitching staff with Dylan Cease, have kept Toronto firmly in the contender conversation.
According to projected metrics, the club still ranks among the league’s top teams, trailing only the Dodgers in projected FanGraphs WAR entering the new season.
