The centre fielder for the San Diego Padres, Jackson Merrill returned to the side after taking a day off as he sustained a knee injury during 6th September, Friday's 5-1 win over the San Francisco Giants. The reason why he had to leave the game was he fouled off a ball on the inside of his left foot.
The X-rays report came out negative
Merrill was ruled with a left patella contusion and after the game, the report of the X-rays came out negative. He then returned for 8th September, Sunday's game against the San Francisco Giants where he started the scoring for the San Diego Padres with a solo home run in the fifth innings but the match ended in a losing cause (6-7).
During his post-match interview, the centre-fielder revealed the extent of his knee injury and said that he hadn't suffered a broken bone or anything major.
"I really didn't want to miss yesterday either. Obviously, it doesn't feel good to have something off in your knee but I want to play every game and it sucks when I have to sit and watch. I try to help my team, be ready on the bench, went to hit it was fine. I want to be there every game," Merrill said.
"Foul ball straight up the knee cap and I have got seam sitting right on top of my kneecap. You got to push through, it's a bruise. Nothing's broken, nothing's messed up. It's going to be there, it's going to be annoying but I am fine," Merrill added.
Unlikely to miss any games: Jackson Merrill
Jackson Merrill did mention that he had a bruise that he was playing through when he returned for the clash against the San Francisco Giants. It is highly unlikely that he will miss any games and said, “I am walking around, running around still it's nothing broken. So, if nothing's broken, I don't see a reason to miss any time.”
