New York Yankees take on Los Angeles Dodgers for the World Series title

Modern Major League Baseball (MLB) greats are on the cusp of creating history as Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani will become the first players from opposing squads with 50 home runs to meet in the World Series.

The captain of the Yankees, Judge finished his season with an MLB-best 58 home runs and Ohtani only managed to register 54 home runs to his name.

This year's World Series will be the latest chapter in Judge and Ohtani's saga as both the players were front and centre of the baseball world in 2022. It was the same year that Judge broke the MLB record for most home runs with 62.

That season, Ohtani was playing with the Angels as he managed to hit 34 home runs to go with a 15-9 record and 2.33 ERA as a pitcher. It was Aaron Judge who was adjourned as the MVP and Ohtani finished second.

The opportunity to win MVP and World Series title for Judge and Ohtani

It is believed that Judge is the frontrunner to win this year's AL MVP and Ohtani is leading the race to win NL MVP. Both the players are gunning to etch their name in more MLB records.

Since the start of 'Divisional Era', only 12 players have managed to win the MVP and World Series in the same campaign. The trend was started by Baltimore Orioles Boog Powell as he came home with a double in 1970 after the Orioles defeated Cincinnati Reds in World Series.

One of the MLB greats, Reggie Jackson achieved the feat with the Oakland A's in 1973. He went on to become the first person to win two awards along with World Series MVP.

In 1975 and 1976, Joe Morgan became the only player to achieve the feat twice.
