Back in the September of 2023, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias was arrested. The reason of the arrest was that he was charged with domestic violence charges after an alleged altercation that panned out at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
Julio Urias suspended over domestic violence breach
Julio Urias was booked and later was released for an amount that costed him a fortune, $50,000 bond. He was then placed under the administrative leave before becoming a free agent after the 2023 season concluded.
It will be some time before Urias touches the mound again if he ever gets the chance. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Urias has been now suspended through the 2025 All-Star break.
Rob Manfred and the Major League Baseball (MLB) recently completed their investigation into the matter. They found evidence against Urias that he violated MLB's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.
The video of the incident soon came out which further helped the cause of the police officers and the league to investigate the alleged crimes. Julio Urias could potentially make a comeback to the MLB on July 17.
In the month of April, Urias was charged with not one but five misdemeanors against his name. One count was of spousal battery, two counts were of domestic battery involving a dating relationship, one count of false imprisonment and one count of assault. He pleaded no contest to one domestic battery charge and the rest of the charges were dropped.
Julio Urias becomes the first player in MLB to get suspended twice
This is not the first time that the ex-Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias has been in trouble. Back in 2019, he was again arrested after he allegedly shoved a female companion to the ground. He was then asked to serve 52-week domestic violence counseling program, among other things. Not just this, the MLB suspended him for 20 odd games.
With his latest arrest, he becomes the first player in the history of MLB to get suspended twice for violating the domestic violence policy. Urias will now have a really hard time to find a franchise after his latest arrest.
If a team were to sign him, they would face major backlash from the fans knowing his past. Have a look at Trevor Bauer's attempt to return to the league after his legal issues. This comes as unfortunate news for Urias as he was one of the most sort-out left-hand pitchers in the league at that time. During his time at the LA Dodgers, he registered a 60-25 record with a 3.11 ERA and 710 strikeouts on 717 innings.
