Despite persistent rumors linking Dallas with the Atlanta Hawks, there is little momentum toward a blockbuster deal involving the 10-time All-Star.
No traction between Dallas and Atlanta
NBA insider Marc Stein reported that conversations between Mavericks and Hawks have stalled, offering clarity amid weeks of conjecture. In his Substack newsletter The Stein Line, Stein wrote:
“There is no meaningful traction at the moment, league sources say, in trade talks between Atlanta and Dallas on an Anthony Davis swap.”
That update represents a key development, signaling that while Davis remains a name frequently mentioned in league circles, Dallas is not actively moving toward a deal—at least not one that fails to meet its internal threshold.

From Dallas’ perspective, the lack of progress is neither unexpected nor concerning. The organization is still navigating the fallout from the seismic Luka Doncic trade, a decision that reshaped the franchise’s trajectory, led to the dismissal of former general manager Nico Harrison, and strained trust with sections of the fan base.
In that context, Mavericks are proceeding with caution. Any move involving Anthony Davis would have to represent a definitive step forward, not merely a financial maneuver or reactionary decision. The front office is acutely aware that another misstep could deepen instability during an already sensitive period.
Contract reality shapes the market
One of the most important factors cooling trade momentum is Davis’ contract. The 32-year-old is owed more than $58 million for the 2026–27 season and holds a player option worth nearly $63 million for 2027–28.
