Philadelphia 76ers enter Friday night’s matchup against the Indiana Pacers with significant injury-related questions that could heavily influence the outcome. As the two teams meet for the first time this season, all eyes are on the availability of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, whose statuses headline a lengthy injury report.
Philadelphia has navigated an uneven stretch in recent weeks, and Friday’s contest presents another test of depth and adaptability. With multiple rotation players already ruled out, the final determination on Embiid and Maxey looms large.
Joel Embiid trending toward return
Joel Embiid is listed as probable as he continues his recovery from a left knee issue. While the former MVP has not been at full strength for much of the season, his presence remains central to Philadelphia 76ers’ game plan.
Through nine appearances in the 2025–26 campaign, Embiid is averaging 18.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game. His shooting efficiency has dipped compared to previous seasons, but his impact on both ends of the floor remains evident. If Embiid is cleared to play, it would provide a major boost to a lineup that has lacked consistency in the frontcourt.
Tyrese Maxey’s status remains uncertain
Tyrese Maxey is listed as questionable due to illness, marking one of the few times this season his availability has come into doubt. Maxey has been the engine of Philadelphia’s offense, appearing in every game so far and leading the league in minutes per contest.
The All-Star guard is averaging 31.5 points, 7.2 assists, and 1.7 steals per game while shooting efficiently from both the field and beyond the arc. Any absence would significantly alter the Sixers’ offensive structure, forcing other guards into expanded roles.
Rotation depth tested again
Beyond the two stars, Philadelphia 76ers will be without several contributors. Kelly Oubre Jr. remains sidelined with a knee sprain, while Hunter Sallis and Trendon Watford continue to recover from shoulder and adductor injuries, respectively. Johni Broome is also unavailable due to a G League assignment.
There is some positive news, however. Second-year guard Jared McCain is available despite dealing with a thumb injury and could see increased minutes if Maxey is unable to go.
