Will Donovan Mitchell play against San Antonio Spurs?

The 28-year-old point guard is not listed on the team's injury report which suggests that he will start against the Spurs. He didn't feature in the clash against Portland Trail Blazers on March 25 as he was suffering from a groin injury. Despite missing Mitchell, the Cavaliers faced no trouble in securing the win. The All-Star duo of Darius Garland and Evan Mobley stepped as Cavaliers defeated Blazers 122-111.

Donovan Mitchell has been healthy for the most part of the 2024-25 season as he has only missed six games. In the 65 games that he has featured in, he has averaged 23.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.

The Cavaliers have Ty Jerome listed as questionable and have ruled out Jaylon Tyson (left knee bone bruise) and Evan Mobley (rest) from the clash. The Cavaliers are first in the Eastern Conference with a record of 58-14. The Spurs are placed thirteenth in the Western Conference and have a record of 31-40.

Donovan Mitchell took responsibility for the Cavaliers' recent losing run

While the ongoing season has been exceptional for the Cavaliers, they had a rough patch between March 15 to March 21. The team lost four games on the trot, which is their largest losing streak of the season so far. Due to four losses, it allowed Oklahoma City Thunder to claim league's best overall record.

After their 112-113 loss to the Phoenix Suns, Mitchell showed his leadership skills and took full responsibility of the slump.

Put this one on me. When your leader ain’t doing s**t, this is what happens. Yeah, we have to guard better and rebound, s**t like that. But if I’m not being who I need to be, then we’re not going to get where we want. Until that happens – and it will – yeah. If you need anybody to point to, it’s right here, Mitchell told reporters after the Cavs’ 112-123 loss vs. the Suns.

Over the course of these four games, Mitchell's scoring also saw a dip as he only averaged 18.5 points on 29.5% from the field. It's been nearly a month since Mitchell last scored 30 points in a game. With the postseason nearing, a high-scoring outing against dejected Spurs could help him regain his confidence.
