Even though Isaiah Thomas is already past his peak, he still thinks he can play in the NBA. From the final overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft to a two-time All-Star and MVP candidate in six seasons, he had one of the greatest runs in recent memory, but the fall was as quick as the ascent.
He has participated in 115 games since his selection to the All-NBA Second Team in 2017, which included a brief stay with the Dallas Mavericks in the 2021–22 campaign. On a 10-day deal, Thomas scored six points and dished out four assists in his lone game in Dallas. He is currently trying to make a comeback to the NBA after going unsigned this offseason.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Isaiah Thomas has signed with the Salt Lake City Stars, the Utah Jazz's G-League franchise, in an effort to return to the NBA. While getting ready for a call-up to the Phoenix Suns, Thomas spent the previous season in the G-League, where he averaged 33 points per game in four games. At the end of the regular season, he would play six games for the Suns, and he even got a few garbage time minutes in the playoff opener.
Thomas has played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Mavericks, and Charlotte Hornets in the 2021–22 season, the New Orleans Pelicans three times in the 2020–21 season, the Washington Wizards in 2019–20, and the Denver Nuggets twelve times in the 2018–19 season. Since the 2020–21 season began, he has only participated in 31 regular season games.
Thomas is best remembered for his tenure with the Boston Celtics, when he scored 28.9 points per game and finished fifth in the MVP vote, helping the team advance to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2017.
