The Los Angeles Lakers were on the verge of making a significant roster makeover, but their plans fell through at the last minute. Their trade for Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams failed, leaving them looking for options. While some Lakers fans were dissatisfied, Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George saw things differently. On "Podcast P with Paul George," the nine-time All-Star stated he was pleased after learning that Williams would not be joining Los Angeles. With Williams out, the Lakers swiftly hired experienced big man Alex Len and put their trust in Jaxson Hayes as their primary center.

Paul George On Lakers' Failed Attempt to Sign Mark Williams
Paul George didn’t hold back when discussing the failed Mark Williams deal.
“Thank God the Mark Williams [deal] didn’t go through,” George said. “Good luck in the West—it’s gonna be a nightmare when you play the Lakers.”
The Lakers initially agreed to trade rookie first-round selection Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2031 first-round pick, and a 2030 pick swap to Charlotte for Williams. However, medical concerns about Williams' long-term health caused them to back out. Williams has shown promise as an explosive rim runner and efficient scorer this season, averaging 15.6 points on 58.6% shooting and 78% from the free throw line, but his durability remains a concern. He has only played 85 games in two and a half seasons.
With Williams off the table, Jaxson Hayes stepped into the starting center role. George acknowledged the shift, saying, “It’s going to be dynamic with Jaxson Hayes at the center position.”
