Jimmy Butler will be entering his first full season with the Golden State Warriors this season. The 36-year-old was traded by the Miami Heat in February and became a key player soon after his arrival and the franchise concluded 23–7 in the regular season with his efforts. 

Following the mid-season trade, fans are excited to see Butler and his performance as the regular season approaches. The former Miami Heat star has been a game-changer for his new team and has become a huge part of the team. So, will he be available for the season opener against the 17-time NBA Champions? 

Jimmy Butler injury update: Will Warriors star play season opener against Lakers? 

According to a report by the Warriors beat writer Sam Gordon, the head coach Steve Kerr has stated that Butler, who has been suffering from an ankle injury, is “optimistic” for the season opener.

The player’s MRI report did not show any structural damage as per The San Francisco Chronicle. Meanwhile, Kerr told the reporters that Butler is 'doubtful’ for the pre-season finale against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Butler, who was selected by the Chicago Bulls in the 2011 NBA Draft, has been taking part in light workouts and treatment sessions. Additionally, the franchise is not rushing with the player and is giving him time to recover fully. It has also been said in the reports by Sports Illustrated that Butler’s condition is improving ahead of the upcoming regular season. 

The Warriors are set to take on the Clippers which will be their last exhibition game of the season before they enter the regular season. The eagerly awaited season opener against JJ Redick’s team is scheduled for October 21.
