In his 14-year-long career, Jimmy Butler will be joining his fifth team. So far, he has been seen wearing the No. 21, 22 and 23 on his jerseys. He wore the 21 number with the Chicago Bulls and the 23 number for the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Philadelphia 76ers. This comes as a change after he wore sequential numbers after being traded from one team to another.

Andrew Wiggins was seen donning the No. 22 jersey for the Warriors before his trade. But as of now, Jimmy Butler will be seen wearing the No. 10 jersey for the rest of the NBA 2024-25 season.

Why did Jimmy Butler wear the No. 22 jersey with the Heat

The No. 22 jersey is among popular numbers in the Heat's history. A total of thirteen players have worn the number in the franchise's history including the likes of Brian Shaw, John Salley, Sean Marks, James Jones, Danny Granger, Dereck Williams and Jimmy Butler himself.

When Jimmy Butler signed for the Heat, he mentioned that the history of the number wasn't the reason he picked No. 22, but it was because he paid homage to former teammate Taj Gibson, whom he shared the court with while playing for Chicago Bulls. He further mentioned that Gibson taught him how to be challenging in the NBA.

I played (in Chicago) with one of the toughest individuals I've ever played with in my life - Taj Gibson. He taught me so much about how to be a pro. Sometimes people choose numbers because of someone that inspires them, and Taj is one of those people, Butler said.
