Michael Carrick, Manchester United's interim manager since replacing the sacked Ruben Amorim in January 2026, has revealed a big commitment to the role beyond this season.

Carrick was appointed this year initially on a short-term basis until the end of the 2025-26 season. However, the Red Devils boss has some other plans and hopes to stay for a long time.

Carrick’s honest admission on Man United’s job beyond this season

During the latest episode of BBC Sport’s The Football Interview, Carrick was asked about his future at Old Trafford. He replied:

“For me, it's the ultimate role. I'm really enjoying it, I love what I'm doing. I'm fortunate”.

The Red Devils’ boss continued:

“I don't decide how long that's going to be but I love being here and and while I'm here, I'll give everything I can. And I always plan for the long-term future for the benefit of the football club.”

Carrick has made an immediate positive difference as Man United has climbed into the Premier League top four as of mid-February 2026. His calm leadership and unbelievable tactics have lifted morale at Old Trafford significantly, turning around a difficult campaign and putting him in strong contention to make the role his own permanently.

Carrick has previously worked in coaching roles under managers like Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United, and had success as Middlesbrough's manager before returning.
