NBC is returning to NBA broadcasting for the first time since 2002.

Jordan’s addition to the NBC broadcast team signals a nostalgic and strategic move.

Basketball icon Michael Jordan is stepping back into the NBA spotlight — not as a player or team owner, but this time as a media contributor. NBC Sports officially announced on Monday that the six-time NBA champion will be joining its broadcast team for NBA coverage beginning with the 2025-26 season.

Jordan Teams Up with NBC for NBA Comeback

NBCUniversal confirmed Jordan’s return to the NBA world during its major upfront presentation at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. While specific details about Jordan's on-air responsibilities have not yet been disclosed, NBC stated they will be shared at a later date.

In a video message played during the event, Jordan expressed his excitement, saying:

“I am so excited to see the NBA back on NBC. The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I’m excited about being a special contributor to the project. I’m looking forward to seeing you all when the NBA on NBC launches this October.”

A Legendary Career Comes Full Circle

Michael Jordan is widely hailed as the greatest basketball player of all time. His resume includes:

6 NBA Championships
6 NBA Finals MVPs
5 Regular Season MVPs
14 NBA All-Star selections
10 Scoring Titles
Career-high 30.1 points per game average — still the best in league history
2 Olympic Gold Medals with Team USA
Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee (Class of 2009)

After a 15-season career split between the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards, Jordan went on to become the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets, a role he held until 2023.

NBC and NBA Reunite After Two Decades

NBC is returning to NBA broadcasting for the first time since 2002. The network was home to the league from 1990 to 2002 — a golden era that coincided with Jordan’s dominance on the court. In July 2024, NBC struck a new 11-year media rights agreement with the NBA that begins with the 2025-26 season.

NBC Sports President Rick Cordella celebrated the announcement, stating:

“Michael’s legacy both on and off the court speaks for itself. We’re incredibly proud to have him join our coverage.”

Jordan’s addition to the NBC broadcast team signals a nostalgic and strategic move as the network reboots its iconic “NBA on NBC” brand for a new generation of fans.
