The Milwaukee Bucks are interested in trading for Miami Heat star Andrew Wiggins to possibly lure Giannis Antetokounmpo to stay with the team.
Big update on Giannis Antetokounmpo
As per ESPN's Jamal Collier on Friday, Milwaukee has been really attacking on the trade market leading up to the February 5 deadline. Amid the speculations that Antetokounmpo might ask for a trade, the Bucks are reportedly targeting for potential roster upgrades to increase their chances of contending.
Per Collier, Milwaukee is in a "unique position" with its financial flexibility, wherein it can sign a player with multiple years on his contract. Rival teams are rigid to trade for huge contracts.
One of the players to watch out for in Milwaukee is Wiggins. As per Spotrac, the Heat star earns $28 million this season and has a $30 million player option next year.
"The Bucks can accept a larger contract with multiple years beyond this season that an opposing team might be trying to get out from under, such as Miami's Andrew Wiggins, who owns a $30 million player option for next season, or Charlotte's Miles Bridges, who will make $22.8 million in the 2026-27 season, team and league sources told ESPN," Collier wrote.
ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Tim Bonte reported Thursday that Miami has locked its eyes on being financially flexible for the foreseeable future. The team is gearing up for the 2028 offseason, when superstars like Nikola Jokic, Donovan Mitchell and Antetokounmpo could be unrestricted free agents.
