The Sacramento Kings have reportedly fired their head coach, Mike Brown, and with that, their two and a half years of association have come to an end. Brown's stint with the Kings came to an end with an overall record of 107-88. As far as the 2024-25 season is concerned, then the California-based team is currently at 13-18.
As per the reports, the Kings have hired their former player Doug Christie, who played for them from 2000 to 2005. Christie will now serve as the interim head coach of the Sacramento Kings moving forward.
A surprising turn of events
It was indeed a surprising move from Kings, especially considering the fact that Brown was seen conducting a practice session with the team recently, and he was also seen talking about the team's performance and other updates. The 54-year-old coach recently expressed his feelings about pressure building on coaches after their teams fail to deliver. He noted that pressure is going to be there, as that is what they are paid for.
"You know it's part of it, that's why I get paid money but at the end of the day you also know when we go through adverse times you know who was truly there for you because people will jump off the bandwagon quick and support wherever it may come from," Brown said.
Brown's peers, like Rick Carlisle, the head coach of the Indiana Pacers, expressed their shock over the firing and said that he was grateful for working with him.
"The firing of Mike Brown today was just shocking to me and I’m sure all the people in our profession — men and women," Carlisle said. "I had the privilege of working with Mike when I was in Indiana coaching the first time. I view him as one of the standard bearers for integrity for our profession. And I’m just absolutely shocked that that decision was made," he concluded.
Denver coach Michael Malone also voiced his support for Brown saying:
"As an NBA head coach, ultimately, you’re going to get the blame,” Malone said. “When they win, it’s going to go to (Domantas) Sabonis and (De’Aaron) Fox. And when you lose, it’s going to go to Mike Brown. That’s the way it works."
With this significant change in their team, it would be interesting for the Sacramento Kings fans to see the team's performance under the guidance of new mentor Doug Christie.
