The NBA has fined Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards $100,000 for using profane language during a live television interview. This fine follows a series of similar incidents where Edwards' choice of words led to penalties, with the NBA citing his history of using inappropriate language in media interactions.

The interview that resulted in the hefty fine took place after the Timberwolves' dramatic 113-112 victory over the Houston Rockets on Friday. Edwards, who played a key role in the win by hitting a go-ahead 3-pointer with just 23 seconds left, was visibly excited during his postgame interview.

"I gotta go get it, s," Edwards said. "Nickeil found me. He cut me off. I'm like, s, I'm going for the win. Like Gilbert Arenas said, 'I don't do overtime.' So f it."

While the use of two "s-bombs" might have been overlooked, the "f-bomb" did not go unnoticed by the NBA, which has previously fined Edwards for similar language. The fine was imposed partly due to his history of using profane language during interviews.

Edwards' Past Penalties

This isn’t the first time Edwards has faced consequences for his postgame remarks. Earlier in December, he was fined $25,000 for dropping two f-bombs in an interview after a win against the Golden State Warriors.

“Naz [Reid] and Julius [Randle] are fing playing defense,” Edwards said during that interview on December 6. “I’ve never seen them play defense before. So that’s fing incredible. And he’s right here, put the camera on him. Guarding his ass off.”

In November, Edwards was fined $35,000 for flipping off a Sacramento Kings fan. Just days earlier, he received a $75,000 fine for calling referees "fing terrible" following a December 21 loss to the Warriors.

A Rising Fine Tally for Edwards

With Sunday's $100,000 fine, Edwards' total fines for the 2024-25 NBA season now amount to $235,000. As a repeat offender, the NBA has made it clear that Edwards could face escalating penalties if his behavior continues.

Despite the mounting fines, Edwards has shown no signs of holding back when it comes to expressing himself. The young star is set to earn $42.2 million this season as part of his five-year, $244.6 million rookie contract extension, and it's clear that he's willing to set aside some of his salary to speak his mind.
