Next up, the Mavericks reportedly have plans in place for Kyrie Irving. Relax Mavs fans the franchise is not going to offload Irving like Doncic, rather they have the opposite in mind.

Dallas Mavericks To Offer New Contract to Kyrie Irving

According to Marc Stein, the Dallas Mavericks are planning on handing Kyrie Irving a new contract following the culmination of the 2024-25 season.

"Irving, by all indications, remains on course for a new multi-year deal in July," Stein wrote on Sunday.

As per Spotrac, the 8-time All-Star has a $43.9 million player option available with him for the 2025-26 season.

Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic came close to winning the Larry O'Brien championship last season and with the inclusion of Klay Thomson, the side looked destined to claim the eluding championship. However, Luka Doncic's trade has erased the ideal narrative. Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to LA Lakers and received Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick in return.

Doncic's Exit Leaves Kyrie Irving at a Complicated Position

Stein reveals that Dallas was expected to render both Doncic and Irving with new contracts during the off-season prior to the trade. The Mavericks brought Irving on board in February 2024 from Brooklyn Nets. Doncic reportedly stressed the front office to strike a deal for Irving and bring him on board. As per ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, Kyrie was stunned after learning about Doncic's transfer.

The star guard is having a decent season with the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 24.3 points and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 47.9 per cent from the field and 41.5 per cent from three-point territory.

With Doncic gone, it is uncertain whether Kyrie Irving wants to stay or leave, but given that he could receive a hefty contract from Dallas soon, he might indeed stay and take the onus in this transition.
