Courtesy of an unbealieavble consistency, Oklahoma City Thunder's star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has reaped the title from the continued brilliance he has sown. To put things into perspective, the star guard has officially been declared as the MVP of the 2024-25 NBA season.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Becomes the MVP of the Season
With an exceptional average of at least 32 points and 6 assists per game, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has become the rightful owner of the Most Valuable Player tag. This is SGA's maiden MVP award. He is only the second player to average such figures after Michael Jordan, who accomplished the feat in the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons.
By claiming the title, he has become the second MVP recipient from Canada (Steve Nash in 2004-05 and 2005-06) and the third with the Thunder (Kevin Durant in 2013-14 and Russell Westbrook in 2016-17).
The blistering consistency and the continuous winning contributions had put Shai Gilgeous-Alexander the frontrunner for the MVP title, but Denver Nuggets' sensational flagbearer, Nikola Jokic, was in the race as well. However, with him getting eliminated from the competition in Round 2 of the Playoffs, Shai became the undisputed favourite. Following the convincing win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final, Alexander was hailed as the MVP by former Nuggets coach Michael Malone. It did not take much for the NBA to come up with the official announcement for the same.
After claiming the MVP award, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is in the running for two more prestigious trophies that could cement his legacy.
The Thunder and Timberwolves will return to action on Thursday night. It will be the first game SGA takes the floor after winning the MVP. While it would be a daunting task for the Timberwolves to script an immediate comeback, but Anthony Edwards and co would be looking to spoil Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's party.
