WNBA rookie sensation Caitlin Clark recently shared her admiration for pop superstar Taylor Swift, calling her “probably one of the sweetest people I’ve ever been around.” Ahead of her regular-season debut with the Indiana Fever on May 17, Clark opened up about their interaction during an interview with ESPN’s Alexa Philippou.
Clark and Swift Connect Over Football at Arrowhead Stadium
The connection between the basketball phenom and the 14-time Grammy winner began when both attended an NFL playoff game at Arrowhead Stadium in January. Swift, who is dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, was spotted chatting with Clark during the game — a moment that thrilled fans of both stars.
“We’re just having normal conversations as any other person in Arrowhead Stadium that night. She loves the Chiefs just as much as I do. I’m talking football with her,” Clark told ESPN. “She loved it, and just like her passion, and honestly, probably one of the sweetest people I’ve ever been around.”
A Shared Spotlight and Mutual Respect
Clark, one of the most recognizable faces in women’s basketball, understands the pressures of fame — and sees parallels between herself and Swift.
“I think what people don’t always realize about people with a certain spotlight, whether it’s her, whether it’s me, whether it’s another professional athlete or a pop star, we’re real people,” Clark said of Swift, the artist behind the chart-topping hit “Fortnight.”
According to Clark, Swift’s down-to-earth personality isn’t just a rumor.
“Everybody says that when you meet (Swift), but it’s really true,” Clark noted. “She just treats everybody with the same amount of kindness, and her family was great.”
Teammate Jokes: “I’ll Be Her Sabrina Carpenter”
Clark’s impact on the sport has been so massive that she’s earned comparisons to Swift herself. One of her teammates, Sophie Cunningham — who joined the Fever in February after a trade from the Phoenix Mercury — humorously embraced the analogy.
During a podcast appearance, Cunningham said she "will be her Sabrina Carpenter any day to her Taylor Swift,” referencing Swift’s Eras Tour opener.
