The National Basketball Association (NBA) fraternity was left in shock on Saturday, February 1 after a historic three-team trade sent Luka Doncic to the LA Lakers. As the reports went viral, players, analysts and fans were initially confused but as multiple sources confirmed the news, fans were elated.

Luka Doncic to LA Lakers

In one of the most impressive trades in the recent past, the Dallas Mavericks moved on from their star player Luka Doncic as they acquired Anthony Davis.

Lakers received: Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber, Markieff Morris

Mavericks received: Anthony Davis, Max Christie, 2029 first-round pick (via Lakers)

Utah Jaz received: Jalen Hood-Schifino, 2 second-round picks

Luka Doncic is still out and won't be returning to the court as he recovers from a left calf strain. He sustained this injury during last year's Christmas Day, playing against the Minnesota Timberwolves. 

According to reports, the Slovenian superstar was astonished upon learning that the Mavericks had traded him to the Lakers. It was also reported that he was eyeing a comeback in the second week of February before the trade news broke out. 

The career of Luka Doncic at Dallas Mavericks

Luka Doncic and Dallas Mavericks parted ways after being together for seven years. Since making his debut back in the 2018-19 season, Doncic impressed everybody with his talent and slowly paved his way to become one of the best players in the world. 

During his seven years with the Mavericks, Doncic won five All-Star selections, five All-NBA First Team honors and won the 2024 scoring title. He also led the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals last season which was played against the Boston Celtics as the latter won the contest (106-88). It was the Celtics’ 18th championship in franchise history and first since 2008 when they defeated their rival Los Angeles Lakers.

Doncic played 422 regular season games for the Mavericks in his seven-year-long tenure. He averaged 28.6 points on 47.0% shooting from the field, which included 34.8% from the 3-point mark. He also registered 8.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
