Victor Wembanyama has made it clear that he wants to win the NBA's Most Valuable Player Award this season. The player wants to make it a no-debate for any other player to even come close to the award. 

Wembanyama led the San Antonio Spurs to clinch its irst Southwest Division title in nine seasons after a win against the Miami Heat in their most recent game. The team is 2nd in the Western Conference and has been one of the top franchises this year, performing at the highest level.

The French international, as per a report in ESPN, said: 

"I think right now, there is a debate. There should be, even though I think I should lead the race.”

The 22-year-old added: 

“I'm trying to make sure that at the end of the season, there's no debate."

The Spurs star is currently averaging 24.3 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.0 blocked shots. Meanwhile, apart from him, reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder is one of the favourites to win the MVP. Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers is another player who is on the list.  

Meanwhile, the Spurs will next face the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday this week. They are one of the teams already qualified for the playoffs alongside the Thunder, all thanks to Wembanyama’s stunning performances throughout the season.
