Stephen Curry has opened up on what he expects from Jimmy Butler as the latter was traded to the Golden State Warriors from the Miami Heat. The Warriors managed to seal the deal before their match against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, February 5. The Warriors had to trade Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder and Lindy Waters III in a four-team trade to sign the forward.
What did Stephen Curry say about Jimmy Butler?
The Golden State Warriors gave Jimmy Butler a two-year whopping deal of $121 million dunning through 2026-27. Butler denied his player option for the next season. After the trade happened, Curry shared his views on what he expects from the forward.
I know there was a lot of drama down there (in Miami). Who really knows what the story is. We expect to have a motivated, committed Jimmy.
The ongoing saga between the Heat and Butler was on from mid-December as the latter was suspended twice in the process. According to reports, Butler had denied going to the Warriors as he only wanted to play for Phoenix Suns, but later on, he changed his mind. On top of it, Bradley Beal, who has a no-trade clause, refused to waive his rights, hence the Suns were not able to sign Butler.
With the tension heating up between the Heat and Butler, both parties concluded part ways as Butler joined the Warriors.
Golden State Warriors retain Jonathan Kuminga but lose Andrew Wiggins
Stephen Curry led the Golden State Warriors and went all out to sign Jimmy Butler after seeing other teams land superstars on their rosters. The biggest trade could be the LA Lakers signing Luka Doncic as the Spurs got De'Aaron Fox and the Kings got Zach LaVine as part of the trade.
Among the teams in the Western Conference, only the Warriors were left to make a move. There were reports that they could have gone for a Kevin Durant reunion but the latter rejected the move which forced them to go for Butler. The deal couldn't have been possible without Andrew Wiggins who is a big loss for the Warriors. Wiggins was having a fantastic season being the team's best two-way player.
He averaged 17.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting 44% including 37.9% from 3. Nonetheless, the Warriors were able to keep a hold of Jonathan Kuminga, who is part of their young core. Another player that the Warriors were able to retain was Brandin Podziemski. The team has high hopes for the youth despite his ups and downs in the game.
