San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama is the latest player to speak up regarding the civilian killing in the United States. Wembanyama reacted to the issue just days after a second American citizen was killed by a federal immigration officer in Minneapolis.
Victor Wembanyama reacts on civilian killings in Minneapolis
Talking with the reporters following Tuesday's practice, Wembanyama was questioned about his opinion on the ongoing protests in Minneapolis and across the United States. The Spurs admitted that there was a PR factor for him, but he decided to speak up on the matter.
"Every day I see the news, and I'm horrified," Wembanyama said. "I think it's crazy that some people might make it seem like or make it sound like it's acceptable, like the murder of civilians is acceptable. I read the news, and sometimes I'm asking very deep questions about my own life.
"I'm conscious also, saying everything that's on my mind will have a cost that's too great for me right now, so I'd rather not get into too many details. It's terrible."
Victor Wembanyama was not the first NBA player to react to the situation in Minneapolis and the anti-ICE protest across the country. Tyrese Haliburton slammed the federal immigration agency, while Isaiah Thomas and Charles Barkley were also pretty vocal about the situation.
In a span of two months, two American citizens have been shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. While there has been a pushback about the situation from both Democratic and Republic leaders, some people are showcasing support for what is happening in the country.
Tyrese Haliburton makes big prediction on Victor Wembanyama
With Victor Wembanyama being close to missing out on awards eligibility, Tyrese Haliburton predicted that NBA will soon scrap the 65-game criteria. Haliburton made the claim in an appearance on the "Mind The Game" podcast with LeBron James.
"I think it's something that will be adjusted," Haliburton said, according to FanSided. "I think a big reason for that is Wemby. For him to not be in the conversation for Defensive Player of the Year when there's a very good chance that he could win multiple over the course of his career."
Wemby can only miss three more fixtures this season before he becomes ineligible to win an award.
