Golden State Warriors are scheduled to face the Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center

The Golden State Warriors are scheduled to face the Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, and Steve Kerr’s side will have to be once again without their superstar player. So, why is the point guard not playing amid the action-packed regular season? Let's have a look at his injury update as the Warriors face the defending champions.

Why is Steph Curry not playing as Warriors face Thunder tonight?

Stephen Curry is not playing against the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight as the player is sidelined due to a persistent right knee injury diagnosed as patellofemoral pain syndrome, commonly known as "runner's knee," accompanied by bone bruising.

The superstar guard has not played since January 30, 2026, missing over 10 consecutive games, with the Warriors posting a 5-7 record during his absence. Recent evaluations show gradual progress in his recovery, but the team announced he would be re-evaluated again in 10 days, around March 11, ruling him out for tonight's game and at least several more contests.

This cautious approach prioritizes long-term health for the 37-year-old Curry over rushing a return. The injury, which involves pain around the kneecap, is often linked to overuse or misalignment and has proven unpredictable in its healing timeline, as Curry himself described it as "weird" and "kind of unpredictable" in recent comments.

An MRI confirmed no structural damage, allowing for conservative management rather than surgery, but the Warriors are opting for extended rest to avoid setbacks that could impact the postseason push. Meanwhile, the Warriors are now 32-30 and stand 8th in the Western Conference.
