Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin achieved a big milestone in his test career by becoming the ninth bowler to pick 500 or more wickets in test cricket during the third Test match between India and England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

Before the beginning of the third test match against England in the ongoing five-match series, R Ashwin, who was just one wicket away from reaching the 500-wicket landmark, was aiming to achieve this feat.

In response to India's formidable total of 445, Ben Duckett's blazing century propelled England to a dominant position, reaching 207/2 by the end of Day 2 duirng the third Test in Rajkot on February 16.

Ashwin broke the opening partnership between Crawley and Ben Duckett, who were looking extremely dangerous.

In his second over, Ashwin dismissed Zak Crawley, who was attempting a sweep shot. After removing the English opener, Ashwin achieved the milestone of reaching 500 test wickets, cementing his place in test cricket history. Making his test debut in November 2011, Ashwin has been Indiaโ€™s key bowler in test matches, especially at home, where he has claimed 347 of his 500 wickets so far.

1. Second Indian bowler to reach 500 Test wickets

Veteran off-spinner has become the second Indian bowler to reach the milestone of 500 or more test wickets while representing India after legendary cricketer and leg-spinner Anil Kumble. Currently, Ashwin has 500* wickets in 98* test matches, while Kumble achieved the feat of 619 wickets in 132 games.


2. Second-fastest bowler in Test history to reach 500 wickets

Ashwin reached this milestone in just 98 test matches, making him the second-fastest bowler in test history to do so, behind only Muttiah Muralitharan. Surprisingly, it took the other seven bowlers more than 100 test matches to accomplish this significant feat. As a result, Ashwin now holds the prestigious title of being the second-quickest bowler in test history to claim 500 wickets, trailing behind the legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.

3. First Indian to achieve 3000 runs and 500 wickets in Test

In addition to joining the '500 club,' Indian all-rounder Ashwin also secured a massive milestone in Indian Test cricket history. The 37-year-old became the first Indian player to belt 3000 runs and claim 500 or more wickets in Test cricket. This feat has been achieved by only three cricketers in the history of the game: Shane Warne, Stuart Broad, and now Ravi Ashwin.

4. ย 9th Test bowler to breach 500-wicket landmark

After dismissing English batter Zak Crawley during the first innings of the third test match in Rajkot on February 16, Ashwin joined the elite group of test bowlers who have reached the 500-wicket milestone in Test cricket.

This prestigious list comprises Muttiah Muralitharan (800), Shane Warne (708), James Anderson (696), Anil Kumble (619), Stuart Broad (604), Glenn McGrath (563), Courtney Walsh (519), and Nathan Lyon (517).

5. 5th spinner to pick 500-wicket mark in Test history

After entering the โ€˜500-wicket club,' Ashwin joined Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, and Nathan Lyon as the fifth spinner to achieve the stunning feat of claiming 500 or more wickets in Test cricket history.
