After Travid Head, Covid-19 virus struck down Australia's head coach Andrew McDonald and all-rounder Cameron Green ahead of their second Test against West Indies at the Gabba.
"Cameron Green and Andrew McDonald will be separated from the group until they return a negative test. It will not hinder Green taking part in or McDonald attending the match in line with CA protocols," Cricket Australia said in a statement.
Green and McDonald have been temporarily isolated from Australia's squad and will only rejoin upon producing a negative Covid-19 test. As per Cricket Australia's protocols, both players can still participate in the Test against West Indies, even if they don't produce negative results within the next 24 hours.
In other news, batsman Travis Head has tested negative for Covid-19 following his infection after the first Test in Adelaide last week. Head has previously navigated Covid-19 during a home Test series. He missed the Melbourne Test in the 2021-22 Ashes series due to the infection, which led to Usman Khawaja's return to the team.
Additionally, opening batsman Usman Khawaja has been declared fit to play in the second Test against West Indies, having successfully passed all concussion protocols.
The 37-year-old, recently honored in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year for 2023, sustained a head injury from a short ball delivered by West Indies debutant Shamar Joseph in Adelaide. The impact caused him to spit blood. This occurred at a crucial moment when Australia was just one run away from victory, leading to Khawaja retiring hurt and undergoing scans. West Indies aims to make a comeback and equalize the two-match series in their upcoming game against Australia at the Gabba on January 25. Australia currently leads the series 1-0 after securing a 10-wicket win in the first Test.
