Pakistan captain and champion batter, Babar Azam has revealed his favourite cricketer of the current generation and it's not his countryman Shaheen Afridi or India's superstars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Babar named New Zealand's superstar Kane Williamson as his favourite cricketer of the current generation. Both Babar and Williamson are considered two of the greatest batters in contemporary cricket.
Williamson, who has missed New Zealand's opening two matches of the ongoing ODI World Cup, is gearing up to make a comeback to international cricket after missing significant time due to brutal injury. In his absence, the Blackcaps have performed tremendously, winning both contests in stunning fashion. Having said that, the return of Williamson will only bolster the Kiwis, who are looking to fly under the radar and once again reach the final and cross the last hurdle this time around.
Talking more about Williamson, the elegant right-handed batter was the Player of the Tournament in the 2019 ODI World Cup. He led his team from the front, scoring 578 runs in nine innings at an average of 82.57.
Talking about Williamson's overall numbers, the Kiwi superstar has excelled in all three formats of the game. In 94 Tests, Williamson has scored 8,124 runs, in 161 ODIs, he has scored 6,555 runs and in T20Is, the right-handed batter has scored 2,464 runs in 87 matches.
Williamson is expected to return to New Zealand's playing XI in the country's upcoming match against Bangladesh on October 13. The captain's return will provide a major boost to an already lethal New Zealand side.
Meanwhile, Babar Azam will be seen in action on October 10 when Pakistan renews their rivalry against Sri Lanka. The Pakistan skipper would look to score big runs after having missed out against the Netherlands. Babar scored just five runs in the match against the Men in Orange.
