England opener Ben Duckett scored nearly half of his team’s runs in the first innings. England missed out on an opportunity to dominate on Day 2 as they suffered a batting collapse and were bowled out for 319. Despite the collapse and India’s lead already going beyond 300 runs after Yashasvi Jaiswal’s century, Duckett is not afraid of the target they will get in the Rajkot Test.
Duckett feels that sending a nightwatchman Kuldeep Yadav at the end of Day 3's play shows that India are wary of Ben Stokes-led England who will look to score quickly.
"I think even sending in a nightwatchman when you're 330 ahead shows that they're slightly wary of us," Duckett told the BBC.
"We're going to continue the way that we play, and if we get two or three blokes in on that pitch, scoring quickly, you never know what can happen."
No target big enough for England?
The left-handed batter was asked about a target England will feel that they have a chance of chasing down.
"The more the better. This team is all about doing special things and creating history. They can have as many as they want and we'll go and get them," the 29-year-old replied.
Jaiswal impresses Duckett
As Jaiswal shifted gears after a quick start in the last session. He hit as many as five sixes to reach his century before leaving the field due to back spasms. Duckett believes England should take credit for bringing out the aggressive side of their opposition.
"When you see players from the opposition playing like that, it almost feels like we should take some credit that they're playing differently than how other people play Test cricket," Duckett told the reporters.
"We saw it a bit in the summer and it's quite exciting to see other players and other teams are also playing that aggressive style of cricket."
He lauded the 23-year-old who has scored two centuries in the ongoing Test series already.
"He looks like a superstar in the making, unfortunately he's in some very good form at the moment. He's due a couple of low ones," he added.
At the end of Day 3, India were leading by 322 runs with Shubman Gill unbeaten for 65.
