India's superstar pacer Mohammed Shami will miss the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. However, the Indian fast bowler is recovering from ankle surgery
but is expected to return to cricket in the home Test series against Bangladesh later in the year, according to Shah. Shami had surgery on his right Achilles tendon in London of late in February.

Jay Shah confirms Shami unavailability for T20 World Cup
BCCI secretary Jay Shah provided the update on Shami's availability for the marquee event.
"Shami's surgery is done; he is back in India. Shami's return is likely for the home series against Bangladesh," Jay Shah told PTI.
Shami was absent from the five-Test series against England and will also miss the IPL too. His most recent appearance for India was in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he delivered impressive performances. India is scheduled to welcome Bangladesh for a series consisting of two Tests and three T20 Internationals in September.
Shami to return for Bangladesh series
Notably, Bangladesh and India are schedule to play a multiformat series in September, later this year. Team India will host Bangladesh for three T20Is and two Tests.
Shami, who snared 24 wickets in the 2023 ODI World Cup, was absent from the five-match Test series against England, which Rohit Sharma's brigade ended up winning 4-1. The star pacer will also miss the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, following Achilles tendon surgery last month. Shami was part of Gujarat Giants' squad.
Few days back, Shami took to X to give an update on his injury.
"Just had a successful heel operation on my achilles tendon! Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet. #AchillesRecovery #HeelSurgery #RoadToRecovery," Shami posted on X.
The T20 World Cup 2024 will kick off with USA facing Canada in the opening match on June 2, and the grand finale is set to take place on June 29 in Barbados. The highly anticipated match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan will unfold in New York City on June 9, adding another chapter to their storied history.
