Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has taken a cheeky dig at ex-Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni hours ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Gambhir uploaded a post on his social media account ‘X’ in which he requested no one should bring any twist of advertisement and let the Indian cricketer play the World Cup without any ad. The tweet indirectly pointed at the promotion of the biscuit company, Oreo. In this advertisement, Dhoni was featured before the 2023 ODI World Cup.
“Having played the World Cup and won it, I know the pressure and I know the jubilation too. 140 crore Indians hold their breath...and all that matters is winning the World Cup!!! So, guys don't bring in any more twist. Don't let the Ad play. Just let the boys play,” Gambhir tweeted.
Britannia requests Oreo to abstain from T20 World Cup
For the ICC T20 World Cup commencing on June 1, 2024, Britannia has delivered a humorous jab at Oreo in its newest campaign, featuring Varun Sharma and Kunaal Roy Kapur. However, the essence of Britannia's advertisement satire is its appeal to Oreo to abstain from airing advertisements during the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup.
Notably, Dhoni teamed up with a similar ad campaign ahead of the T20 World Cup in 2022.
Dhoni dropped a bombshell on March 21 as he stepped down from CSK captaincy. 42-year-old handed over the baton to young Ruturaj Gaikwad.
This will be the second time that Dhoni will not begin an IPL season as captain of the Chennai-based franchise. In 2022, he handed over his captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja.
The IPL 2024 edition will commence on March 22, with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on arch-rivals Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
