Gujarat Titans picked up a big 35-run victory against Chennai Super Kings in match 59 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on May 10. However, despite the stunning victory, GT and its captain Shubman Gill suffered a big bow from BCCI. The Indian Cricket Board fined both Gill and the entire TItans team for their second slow-over rate offence.
Gill slapped with hefty fine
As this is GT's second slow-over rate offence this season, Gill has been fined 24 Lakhs INR and the rest of the GT players will be individually fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser. In the first offence, only the captain is fined with 12 Lakhs INR but in the second one the whole team suffer the outcome.
"Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on May 10," IPL stated in a press release.
“As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Gill was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” the statement further added.
Gill on verge of suffering ban
If Gujarat Titans maintain a slow-over rate one more time, Shubman Gill will have to suffer a one-match ban along with a 30 Lakh INR fine, and the rest of the GT team will have to pay a fine of 12 Lakh INR.
Despite, the big threat looming on their head, GT would be happy to keep themselves alive in the playoffs race. They now have 10 points in 12 matches. However, their road to playoffs is an extremely tough route. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan smashed astonishing tons against CSK and helped their team post a target of 231/3 and later restricted CSK on 196/8 to win the match by 35 runs.
