'How teams find it so hard to beat India...': English legend's bold remark after India bulldozed England 4-1 in five-match Test series

Following Rohit Sharma-led India's Test series win against England, Kevin Pietersen made a pointed remark about teams that haven't managed to secure a Test series victory in India. Since 2012, India have maintained an unbeaten streak in home Test series, with no team succeeding in defeating them. However, India have lost some matches here and there on home soil, but have not conceded a Test series in the last 12 years.

Kevin Pietersen reacts to England's embarrassing Test series defeat vs India

Pietersen, who was part of the team that last defeated India in Test series on their home ground, has posted on X, stating that touring India was one of the simplest challenges.

 

"I find it really strange how teams find it so hard to beat India in India. We had no problems. One of the easiest tours we ever went on," Pietersen wrote on X.

 

 

Recap of India vs England's Test series in 2012

The team captained by Alastair Cook began the 2012 series with a defeat, as India effortlessly chased down a target of 77 in Ahmedabad to open the series with a victory. However, England turned the tables on India at the Wankhede Stadium, securing a victory by 10 wickets. Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann dominated the Indian batting lineup, taking a combined total of 19 wickets, with Panesar claiming 11 of those. Pietersen was instrumental in this victory, contributing a magnificent 186 runs. His performance was key in countering the Indian spinners, marking one of the finest innings played in India.

England secured another victory against India with a seven-wicket win at Eden Gardens, moving ahead 2-1 in the series. In the third match, Captain Cook delivered an outstanding 190-run innings, enabling England to post 523 in response to India's 316. The visitors easily chased down a modest target of 41.

The series' fourth Test concluded in a dull draw, with only 23 wickets falling over five days, leading to no decisive outcome.

In the opening match of the 2016 series, England nearly upset India but ultimately couldn't clinch a win. The series, led by Virat Kohli, ended in a 4-0 victory for India. Under Joe Root's leadership, England started the 2021 tour of India with a victory but couldn't maintain their momentum, losing the series 3-1 to India.

With Rohit Sharma at the helm, India rebounded after losing the first match, showcasing superior skill in all facets of the game from the second Test onwards, achieving a commanding 4-1 series victory. With no matches scheduled until June 5, the players will now join their IPL 2024 teams.
