India set to fly for Mumbai after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will do open bus victory march near Wankhede Stadium

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has arranged a special chartered plane for the team which is set to fly from Barbados on July 3 (Wednesday) as per IST. After Hurricane Beryl hit the Caribbean islands, India's T20 World Cup 2024 winning team was stuck in Barbados and were unable to fly back home as the airports were shut down due to bad weather conditions. However, they are now set to arrive in India on Thursday, July 4. The same flight will also be carrying the Indian media along with the team, support staff, and BCCI officials.

Team India to meet PM Modi

 

The team is expected to arrive here at 5 or 6 in the morning after which they will head towards the PMO house and meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at around 9:30. This is not the end of their plans as they will be flying to Mumbai afterwards.

India's victory march in Mumbai

 

Indian cricket team will be doing an open bus victory march near Wankhede Stadium. It will be a kilometer-long march with the trophy. This will be followed by a celebration ceremony at the Wankhede in the evening. This is India's first ICC trophy after 11 years and the celebration with be equally grand.

Rohit, Virat's winning farewell to T20Is

 

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli played crucial roles in helping India end their 11-year-long trophy drought and win the second T20 World title before annoucing their retirement from T20Is at the highest of highs. However, both of them will continue to play IPL for their respective franchise.


"That was my last game as well. Honestly, I have enjoyed it since the time I started playing this format. There is no better time to say goodbye to this format. I have loved every moment of it. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted to do," Rohit said in the post-match press conference.


"This was my last T20 World Cup, this is exactly what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel like you can't get a run and this happens, God is great. Just the occasion, now or never kind of situation. This was my last T20 game playing for India. We wanted to lift that cup. Wanted to Yes I have, this was an open secret. Not something that I wasn't going to announce even if we had lost. Time for the next generation to take the T20 game forward. It's been a long wait for us, waiting to win an ICC tournament. You look at someone like Rohit, he's played 9 T20 World Cups and this is my sixth. He deserves it. It's been difficult to hold things (emotions) back and I think it's going to sink in later. It's an amazing day and I'm thankful," said Virat Kohli in the post-match presentation.
