Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis is looking forward to another season batting alongside Virat Kohli in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He has high praise for Kohli, calling him ‘one of my favourite partners’. Du Plessis admires Kohli's infectious energy on the field, which undoubtedly boosts the team spirit.
The RCB's star batting duo will be crucial for team's success in the upcoming IPL season. Last year, they formed some formidable partnership, with Du Plessis scoring a remarkable 730 runs and Kohli amassing a hefty 639 runs. As RCB continue their hunt for their first IPL title, both Du Plessis and Kohli will be key players to watch out for.
Kohli brings out so much energy in me: Faf Du Plessis
"Batting is probably the other thing that the equally we click, you know, it is unbelievable batting with him. He's one of my favourite guys to bat with. He brings out so much energy in me, like sometimes I feel like I'm fist bumping my glove through his hand because he gets so passionate. Him being out there in the middle, which is really infectious, the way he gives that energy, and I remember being in the opposition and how that really is," Du Plessis told Star Sports.
"Let's hope for that amount of energy, because it was like this guy is just always on. How did you manage it? So it's really infectious, the same thing on the field, because, like catching balls, we are both very competitive, and I make sure we get those good catches for the team. So he's really important to me in terms of the field. I think, indeed, so many things fast as a team. But fielding is, he said, so he sets the time for the energy on the field,' Du Plessis further said.
Kohli recently returned to India after celebrating the birth of his child, Akaay. He'll be joining the RCB team in Bengaluru soon to gear up for the upcoming season. All eyes will be on him when he will be up against MS Dhoni's CSK in the IPL 2024 opening match at the iconic Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on March 22.
Beyond their love for the game, Du Plessis revealed a surprising number of shared passions he and Virat Kohli have. The RCB captain mentioned they connect over fitness, a shared interest in stylish clothing, and even a love for watches! Du Plessis jokingly admitted to Kohli influencing his taste in watches, highlighting their keen eye for style. This shared dedication to fitness and fashion goes beyond just aesthetics – it reflects a commitment to taking care of themselves and presenting themselves professionally. It seems this shared lifestyle creates a strong off-field bond that could translate into even greater teamwork on the pitch.
"We spent a lot of time in the gym together. We both love food. We are both really into our fashion. That's another thing that we spend a lot of time talking about. You know, the way we dress and the way we style our clothes, we would send each other pictures of outfits and stuff like that. So we're very girly and that, and he's been a terrible influence on me when it comes to watches. But he's got a real passion for watches. But, yeah, there are so many things. Uh, obviously, now it's family. He's got a daughter. I've got two daughters. He's got his second child now as well, our wives and our kids and stuff, having them at similar ages really connected on that front as well,” former South African captain concluded.
