A playful exchange between Virat Kohli and Ishant Sharma added a touch of entertainment to the crucial IPL 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 12. Despite being on opposing teams and having a long history of friendly competition, their camaraderie shone through even as they attempted to ‘sledge’ each other..
Despite a warm send-off from Ishant after dismissing Kohli in the fourth over, ending the RCB star's explosive start, the banter had begun earlier in the over. Kohli initiated the exchange after a thick edge flew for a boundary off the first delivery. Upping the ante, he followed it up with a nonchalant, no-look six off the next ball. This display of power hitting showcased Kohli's intent to capitalise on the powerplay after the early dismissal of RCB captain Faf du Plessis by Mukesh Kumar.
Kohli departs after playful barrage
Undeterred by the earlier six, Ishant returned fire with a sharp delivery that beat Kohli. He then playfully engaged in some friendly banter with the RCB star, knowing Kohli wouldn't take offense. However, the celebration was short-lived. Ishant, with a hint of swing, lured Kohli into a misjudgment on the very next delivery, resulting in a crucial wicket for Delhi. Elated by the dismissal, Ishant celebrated exuberantly right in front of Kohli. Despite the RCB star's dismissal and the home crowd's disappointment, a smile remained on his face, acknowledging the good-natured spirit of the exchange.

Respectful rivalry, Kohli departs despite hot start
Despite the playful exchange, both Ishant and Kohli maintained a respectful demeanor, displaying their long-standing camaraderie. Interestingly the duo began their First-Class careers together for Delhi. However, the dismissal left Kohli frustrated, having gotten into a good rhythm. His knock was cut short at 27 runs off just 13 balls, including a trio of impressive sixes.
