Kevin Pietersen has predicted Shubman Gill to have an excellent campaign at the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Former England batter Kevin Pietersen has predicted that Indian batter Shubman Gill will have a brilliant campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Englishman spoke about how good Gill was in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and how he set the tournament ablaze with 890 runs in 17 matches, including three centuries.

The Indian cricket team will be looking to end its 11-year wait for an ICC Trophy, having last won the Champions Trophy in 2013. India extended its trophy drought after losing the 2023 ODI World Cup final to Australia, and all eyes are now on the 2024 T20 World Cup.

With the marquee event coming up really soon, former England cricketer and 2010 T20 World Cup winner, Kevin Pietersen, spoke about the previous World Cup in the West Indies and England's victory in that event.

"Winning the World Cup in the Caribbean against Australia in the middle of the Barbados crowd was very special," Pieterson told The Times of India.

The former England batter has hinted that India would be tournament favorites coming into the World Cup, as there is not much difference between the Indian conditions and the conditions in the Caribbean.

"It's all about people who will perform at the right time. And that's going to happen in April and May during the IPL. We'll see who's performing the best. The players are good enough to replicate in the World Cup. The conditions are pretty similar to what is here in India actually. There will be very low bounce wickets. It takes some spin, but they are also beautiful wickets," Pietersen said.

When asked to pick one player who could take the tournament by storm the former batter was quick in picking young Indian batter Shubman Gill.

"It is Shubman Gill. He is the guy. Shubman Gill has recently been made the captain of the IPL franchise Gujarat Titans (GT) and would want to have a brilliant tournament like the previous one to cement his place for the T20 World Cup," he said.
