The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are facing challenges in their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign once again. With only one victory in four matches, they currently find themselves in the eighth position on the points table. Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar has offered advice to RCB to rejuvenate their season. RCB is set to play against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur for their fifth match on Saturday, April 6.
RCB struggling in both departments
RCB's struggles have been notable in their bowling department, and in batting, only Virat Kohli has been consistently scoring runs for the team. They lack a frontline spinner, and pacer Mohammed Siraj has appeared out of form. Last year, they acquired Alzarri Joseph for a substantial sum of Rs 11.5 Cr, but his performances have been mediocre. In the batting department, captain Faf Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell have yet to shine this season.
While in Bengaluru for the Midwicket Stories, a cricket talk show, Gavaskar suggested that RCB should opt to chase targets, leveraging their stronger batting lineup over their bowling, to secure wins.
"Of course, the toss is not in your control. But at all possible opportunities, they should chase targets as batting is their strong point. I think that will give them a better chance at winning matches," said Gavaskar.
In their recent match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), RCB failed to chase a target of 182, resulting in a 28-run loss. Similarly, in a game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), they set a first-innings total of 182, but KKR successfully chased it down with 19 balls to spare, winning by 7 wickets. Both matches were played at their home ground, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
