Despite putting a mammoth total of 397/4 riding on Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer's stunning centuries, India found themselves in a deep trouble when Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell gave Rohit's brigade a major scare with sensational batting after losing early wickets of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. Williamson and Mitchell steered India from a precarious 39/2 to a commanding 220/3. The duo stitched together a partnership of 181 runs for the third wicket. But when the going got tough for India, Shami got even tougher with a much-needed breakthrough as he sent Williamson to pavilion at the score of 69. He also got rid of the dangerous looking Mitchell, who struck a phenomenal 134. But Shami was in no mood to spare the New Zealand as he went on to remove the Kiwi tail and helped India to cruise into the World Cup 2023 final.
