Jemimah Rodrigues, known for her lively personality, displayed her cheerfulness as the Indian Women's team secured an eight-wicket victory against Australia on Day 4 of their one-off Test match at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India successfully chased down a target of 75, reaching 75/2 in 18.4 overs.
It was the first time the Indian women's team won a Test match against Australia in 11 meetings since 1977. The players were very excited about this special win and celebrated it in a great way.
Jemimah took charge of the celebrations and interviewed her teammates and coaches, including Amol Muzumdar. The dressing room was full of positive energy, and everyone enjoyed delicious food.
As she approached senior opener Smriti Mandhana, the batter playfully responded, saying, “Overacting ke paise kaato pehele iske (Cut her money for overacting).”
Sneh Rana was named the Player of the Match for taking seven crucial wickets.
Mandhana (74), Jemimah (73), debutant Richa Ghosh (52), and Deepti Sharma (78) were the ones who achieved half-centuries for India in the first innings. The partnership of 122 runs between Deepti and Pooja Vastrakar, who scored 47, played a crucial role in the game.
Jemimah had an impressive start to her Test career, performing well in the match against England at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. She continued her good form against Australia led by Alyssa Healy.
" I think Test cricket is something I always wanted to play. Wearing the blue was the obvious dream, we did not play a lot of Test cricket then, but just wearing these whites was a dream. Nothing like getting two back to back fifties and getting two Test wins. Christmas has come early," she said.
The 23-year-old Jemimah has accumulated 180 runs in two Tests, boasting an average of 60. She has recorded two half-centuries, with a top score of 73.
