Indian captain Rohit Sharma refused to give the reason behind including four spinners in the Indian cricket team's 15-member squad for the upcoming edition of T20 World Cup 2024 which is set to be held in the West Indies and USA. The Men in Blue currently have a great set of spinners with Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal.
Rohit Sharma on playing four spinners
Rohit said IPL played a very small role in electing the final 15 and they were clear about picking four spinners. However, he did not reveal the technical aspect behind it. India have two wrist spinners with Chahal and Kuldeep and also two left-arm spin all-rounders with Jadeja and Axar.
"I don't want to go into details on this. I definitely wanted four spinners. We have played a lot of cricket there. The match starts at 10 am in the morning. There is technical aspect involved in this," Rohit said in a press conference to address queries on the squad selection.
"The reason for picking four spinners is something I won't reveal now. I definitely wanted our spinners. With two of them being all-rounders and two attacking options, it gives you balance. Based on opposition, we can decide who to play," Rohit added.
Ajit Agarkar revealed that picking two wrist spinners was also the reason behind not including Rinku Singh in the 15-member squad. He had to be kept in the traveling reserves.
“Rinku Singh exclusion was the toughest decision. It's got nothing to do with Rinku. We felt Rohit can have an extra spin option with two wrist spinners. He is in the reserves so that's how close he was,” said Ajit Agarkar during the press conference for India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
