The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India's 16-member T20I squad for the three-T20I series against Afghanistan. Rohit Sharma will lead the T20I squad. Rohit and Virat Kohli have made a comeback into India's T20I squad after 14 months.
Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Mohammed Shami are not a part of the squad as they are still recovering from their respective injuries. India will be without the services of their premier pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj who have been rested ahead of the five-Test series against England.
In addition, Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar, and Shivam Dube have made a comeback into the T20I squad as well. Samson and Jitesh Sharma are the two wicketkeepers in the squad. Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul are two notable omissions from the T20I squad.
The T20I series will begin in Mohali on January 11. The next two matches will be held on January 14 and 17 in Indore and Bengaluru respectively.
On January 7, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced a 19-member squad for the series. Rashid Khan has been named in the squad but is unlikely to play a single match as he is yet to regain full fitness after back surgery. Ibrahim Zadran who recently led Afghanistan to a 2-1 series win against UAE has been named the captain for the tour.
