After a poor start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign, the Mumbai Indians (MI) reached Jamnagar for a planned break ahead of their next home match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 7. Following three consecutive losses, the five-time champions hope to get back on track at their home ground, Wankhede Stadium. This start is considered typical for MI, as they have previously recovered from initial losses to win the tournament.

Jamnagar in Gujarat, where the team is taking their break, is the same city where the Ambani family hosted Anant Ambani's pre-wedding event, attended by many cricketers and celebrities.

Ashwin revealed MI's short trip plan

Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had revealed on his YouTube channel that MI are taking a break after their match against RR.

"Mumbai Indians have gone to Jamnagar, the place where the pre-wedding party (for Anant Ambani) happened. They are going to chill there," said Ashwin.

A similar break was given to Kieron Pollard in 2014 or 2015, when he was experiencing difficulties on the field. The MI all-rounder spent some time in Goa, and upon his return, he regained his form. This strategy might be what MI is hoping will motivate their players to perform as expected.

MI players need to rejuvenate quickly

Despite being known for their slow starts in the IPL, MI is facing scrutiny this time due to their new captain, Hardik Pandya. After being traded from the Gujarat Titans (GT) to MI, questions are now being raised about his captaincy as MI finds itself at the bottom of the points table. MI lost their first match against the defending champions GT, their second match saw SRH post the highest total of the IPL, and despite their best efforts, MI lost by 31 runs. In their third match, RR handed them a humiliating defeat in front of their home crowd.
