Team India batter Shubman Gill has been discharged from the hospital after he was admitted on Sunday (October 8). According to a report in PTI, Gill's platelets had plummeted below 1,00,000 and were hovering around 70,000 when he was admitted to Kauvery Hospital in Chennai. After the platelets increased, Gill, who is down with dengue, was released from the hospital on Monday (October 9).
"Shubman Gill was on drip at the Chennai team hotel for the last couple of days. However his platelet count dropped to 70,000 and as it is a case with dengue patients, once the count is below 100,000, you are admitted to a medical facility as a precautionary measure. He was admitted for all mandatory tests on Sunday night when India played Australia but by Monday evening was released," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
When will Shubman Gill return?
The Indian cricket board (BCCI) released a medical update on Gill on October 9 (Monday) where it shed light on the batter's condition and also confirmed his absence from the country's upcoming fixture against Afghanistan, scheduled to take place on October 11 (Wednesday) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
"Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023. The opening batter who missed the team's first fixture in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the team's next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October. He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team," the BCCI statement said.
Right now as things stand, the young in-form batter is facing the prospect of missing more than the match against Afghanistan on Wednesday. India is scheduled to face arch-rivals Pakistan on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. If Gill recovers quickly, he might then fly straight to Ahmedabad from Chennai. But it looks like Gill will miss the match against Pakistan and can be available for selection from India's match against Bangladesh on October 19.
