India were dealt a big blow ahead of Day 4 of the ongoing Vizag Test match against England as Shubman Gill was ruled out from taking the field due to injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to X (formerly Twitter) and announced that Shubman Gill sustained an injury to his index finger while fielding on Day 2. Despite the injury, Gill batted in the second innings and played an outstanding knock that helped India extend their lead to 398 runs

Shubman Gill breaks the shackles with a fantastic century

In a significant turnaround, Shubman Gill showcased his batting prowess by scoring a century on the third day of the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam, halting his recent run of poor form. Gill's century was a critical contribution, rejuvenating his confidence after a series of low scores and providing the Indian team with much-needed stability.

Gill reached his century in the 52nd over by nudging a delivery from Shoaib Bashir to the on-side, marking a moment of triumph and relief for the young batsman. He took 132 deliveries to achieve this feat, decorating his innings with 11 boundaries and two towering sixes.

This century, Gill's third in Test cricket, was a testament to his talent and resilience, coming at a juncture when his form was under intense scrutiny. Prior to this match, Gill's performance in the Test series against England had been underwhelming. With scores of a duck and 23 in the first Test at Hyderabad, followed by a 34 in the first innings of the second Test, Gill's contributions were modest, totaling just 57 runs across three innings.

Gill's struggles with the bat had sparked discussions about his place in the Indian Test squad, with critics questioning his role in future encounters. However, this century in Visakhapatnam not only silenced his doubters but also underscored his importance to the team's batting lineup. Gill's return to form is a promising sign for the Indian team as they seek to build on their performance in the ongoing series against England.
