India's Smriti Mandhana has climbed two spots to secure the fourth position in the latest ICC Women’s ODI rankings for batters. Topping the list are England's Nat Sciver, followed by Katherine Brunt, Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu, and Australia's Beth Mooney.
Wolvaardt's slump paves way for Mandhana's surge
Mandhana's rise in the rankings comes as Proteas Women's Laura Wolvaardt slipped to fifth place after a disappointing performance in the ODI series against Australia. Opening the batting against Alyssa Healy and company, Wolvaardt managed just 7 runs at an average of 2.33.
Ashleigh Gardner's ranking dropped three places to No.22, while Phoebe Litchfield also slid down two spots. On the other hand, Tahlia McGrath made significant progress, moving up four places to secure the No.30 spot in the batting rankings.
Mandhana's most recent ODIs were in the bilateral series against Australia, where she scored 63 runs with an average of 31.50, including innings of 34 and 29 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Mandhana is now gearing up to participate in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024, representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Kim Garth makes notable progress
South Africa's Eliz-Mari Marx made an impressive leap of 34 places, securing the 75th position in the ICC rankings for Women's ODI all-rounders. Similarly, Australia's Kim Garth advanced to No.36, climbing eight places in the rankings.
Furthermore, Alana King and Garth made gains of four and five places, respectively, reaching No.19 and No.21. Marizanne Kapp maintains her position as the world's top-ranked all-rounder, while India's Deepti Sharma moved up one spot to No.5. However, Gardner slipped to No.6 after losing four places.
Meanwhile, Kapp surged seven places to claim the No.2 spot, trailing only England's Sophie Ecclestone in the ODI bowling rankings. Garth also experienced significant advancement, moving up 10 places to No.29 in the rankings.
However, India's Deepti Sharma dropped to No.4 after losing one place in the rankings. Kate Cross and Hayley Matthews also moved up two places.
