Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are poised to name Pat Cummins as their new captain for the upcoming season Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, as reported by Cricbuzz. Cummins, who led Australia to ODI World Cup 2023 title, was bought for Rs 20.5 crore in the IPL 2024 auction held in Dubai and is acclaimed for his leadership skills on the international stage.
Cummins might become SRH's new captain
This appointment has been anticipated for a while, given Cummins' captaincy track record which speaks volume about his undisputed leadership skills.
Working alongside SRH head coach, Daniel Vettori, who is also an assitant coach of Australian national team further solidifies his candidacy for the captaincy role.
Markram's stint as SRH captain set to end
Aiden Markram was at the helm for the past two IPL seasons, though without much success. Nevertheless, Markram's effective captaincy for Sunrisers Eastern Cape, affiliated with the franchise, in the first two editions of the SA20, enhances his profile. Despite Cummins' modest IPL record, his illustrious international career, highlighted by key roles in Australia's victories in the World Test Championship (WTC) and the World Cup against India, likely sways the management's confidence in his leadership abilities.

It has also been learnt that SRH will not get the services of the bowling coach Dale Steyn as the former South African pacer has sought a break from his duties in IPL 2024, according to reports.
