The police had summoned Abhishek, a native of Punjab, to provide a statement after initial investigations revealed that they had been in contact in the past, and the model had also sent text messages to the cricketer, said the official.
"The cricketer was questioned at the Vesu police station for nearly four hours before being allowed to leave," he said.
‘Both broke up 6 to 7 months ago’
"We questioned Sharma about his relationship with Tanya Singh and since when they knew each other. It was revealed that both broke up 6 to 7 months ago. Though she used to send him text messages over the phone, he had stopped replying to them," said the official seeking anonymity.
Abhishek has participated in domestic tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy, as well as in the lucrative T20 league IPL for teams like Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
During the preliminary investigation, Surat Police ACP V.R. Malhotra informed AajTak over the phone that a CD-R (Call Detail Record) report related to model Tanya's suicide has been released to the public.
The ACP mentioned that they are examining Instagram photos of Tanya with Abhishek as part of their investigation. Police revealed that messages were sent from Tanya's phone to Abhishek, but the cricketer did not reply to her.
